Microsoft is announcing a software engineer apprenticeship cohort scheduled to take place in Nairobi, Kenya, through its LEAP apprenticeship program.

Are you a software engineer looking to learn and upscale your talent? Then read on. If this cohort isn’t a fit for you kindly recommend this to anyone who it might be, thank you.

The Microsoft LEAP apprenticeship program is a sixteen-week modern engineering acceleration apprenticeship program focused on inspiring and developing new and diverse talent.

Through five-weeks of technical and non-technical learning instructor-led classes and labs. Ten-weeks of engineering project with an immersion with a Microsoft product team. This is usually with the Microsoft team sponsoring the program. Mentors and leads are assigned during this period.
Then a one-week project fair where participants will showcase their engineering project. Hiring managers are present during the presentations to see your body of work and possible interview that can lead to a hire or job offer.

This particular call is for senior software engineers with about eight years of professional programming or technical experience.

The ideal software engineer candidate should be authorized to work in Kenya for the duration of the program as Microsoft is not offering relocation. Basically Kenyan citizens.

The application portal is opened till 12am UTC on February 9th. The cohort will start on March 15th and will be virtual.

The Microsoft Leap program is announcing a Data Analyst apprenticeship cohort scheduled to take place in Lagos, Nigeria.

Application portal for registration opens from Monday 18th to the 25th of January 2020. With selected candidates scheduled to start the 16 weeks training on the 8th of March 2020.

The Data Analyst pathway is the latest addition to the previously held cohorts on software engineer, customer service engineer and software support engineer.

Microsoft will host a webinar for anyone interested in learning more about the Leap apprenticeship program. On the 18th at 1200 Noon +1UTC, kindly find webinar link here. Kindly note the link will be live prior to the start of the event.

The webinar event will also throw light on if this is going to be only virtual, physical or mixed training. So don’t miss the webinar and come with your questions.

Data Analyst Cohort eligibility requirements

  • A flair for numbers or basic mathematics skills.
  • Basic knowledge of any of Microsoft Excel, Power BI or Tableau, etc.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have completed the National Youth Service Corps obligation or are exempt.
  • Completed a tertiary degree in a numerate field.

Are you a female computer science, IT, or computer science-related course graduate? Or do you have six months or more coding experience? Apply to participate in the next software engineering cohort of the Microsoft LEAP Engineering Acceleration apprenticeship Program in Kenya.

The LEAP Engineering Acceleration Program is a Microsoft initiative that tries to increase diversity. Bringing more women into software engineering roles. By providing them with real world experience through development and project management apprenticeships with hands-on projects.

The selected participants will undergo six weeks of virtual classroom and labs training. Because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The second cohort of the Microsoft LEAP Apprenticeship program gets underway in Nigeria. With ten ladies from across Nigeria selected for the second edition of the program. The initiative is to increases diversity by training more women into software engineering roles.

The ladies will undergo four weeks of classroom and labs training in Software engineering. Followed by twelve weeks of hands-on project sessions with Microsoft Partner Wragby Technologies. Where they will work with mentors on projects.

Leaders of Microsoft Nigeria, African Development Center (ADC) and Wragby Business Solutions & Technologies Limited welcomed the ladies into the program.

Are you a female developer living in Nigeria? Apply to participate in the second cohort of the Microsoft Nigeria LEAP Engineering Acceleration Program.

Microsoft Nigeria lunched the first cohort of the apprenticeship program in October this year. With ten selected female developers from across Nigeria participating in the Program. They received sixteen weeks of training in technical support software engineering roles.

The second cohort of LEAP program in Nigeria will have two tracks. Tracks in Software engineering and support engineering.

The Software Engineer track application opens from December 2nd and closes on the 9th. Whilst the Support Engineer track application opens December 16th and closes on the 3rd of January 2020.

The LEAP Engineering Acceleration Program is a Microsoft initiative that tries to increase diversity. Bringing more women into software engineering roles. By providing them with real world experience through development and project management apprenticeships with hands-on projects.

Speaking to me about the program, Princess Anya, shares that the ladies will undergo four weeks of classroom and labs training. After which they will proceed to do twelve weeks of hands-on project sessions. Where they handle projects with guidance from mentors.

In a prelude to the first cohort, Microsoft hosted thirty female developers in a hackathon event in Lagos.
