Here are some life lessons from Jeff Bezos

Do you see that guy in the middle of the photo below all fashioned up like a top CIA, MI5 agent? He is Amazon’s founder and former CEO, Jeff Bezos. He currently is the Executive Chair of the Amazon Board, where he focuses on new products and early initiatives by the company.

In recent years he leapfrogged Bill Gates to become the world’s richest man for five years continuously. Like Elon Musk the guy is pretty much into lots of stuff, commercial astronaut, rockets et al.

In the end we are our choices. Build yourself a great story.

Back to the image featuring Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson. This wasn’t for an amazon advert of how they are currently outmuscling Microsoft or Google. Neither is it a battle session between Cortana, Alexa, or Siri. lol 😃 it is a Photoshop meme that went viral.

Here below are some worthy notes from Jeff Bezos that shaped his life growing up. I hope you’ll catch a thing or two that will resonate or spur you on.

Keep inventing, and don’t despair when at first the idea looks crazy.

Jeff

Jeff Bezos says:

  • Take on things you don’t know how to do and do them. It makes you resourceful.
  • Each time you have a setback, using resilience and resourcefulness, invent your way out of the box.
  • Minimize your regrets. You don’t want to be cataloging your regrets.
  • In the end, we are our choices. Build yourself a great story.
  • Without a willingness to fail, you cannot innovate. Because most innovations won’t work.
  • Anytime you are doing something new and are criticized, you must figure out if those critics have validity.
  • Keep inventing, and don’t despair when at first the idea looks crazy.
  •  You have to accept that your business is an experiment and it might fail.
  • The most important thing is to be customer obsessed. Don’t satisfy your customers, figure out how to absolutely delight them.

Those are a few nuggets to get you going. Have a lovely weekend and cheers!

How long should your resume be? DJ Cabeen says not more than two pages as it can get wordy and this can turn the reader off. However, tenured applicants with a lot of experience can go a little over two pages. Read on and learn to tailor your resume to what hiring managers and recruiters are seeking.

Resume writing tips and advice

Optimize your resumes for applicant tracking systems. The resume layout should be simple and don’t add too many pictures and colours. Keep your resume as a Microsoft Word document or PDF. Use bullet points. Use a font that is easy to read like Calibre or Times New Roman and 11 or 12 sizes.

Recruiters look out for all that you have been able to accomplish so use examples and results not just detail your day-to-day work. List your accomplishments including the processes and efficiencies you’ve created in your role. What kind of money have you saved for your team or company?

Marketing yourself can be difficult, think about the things you’ll like to say to someone. Be your authentic self, put yourself into your resume. Market yourself in a humble and confident way, be a humblebrag.

Recruiters will stop reading your resume and move on to the next one if they see errors. So proofread your work. Also, have someone proofread them for you to avoid typos and misspellings.

Incorporate your skills into the body of each of your jobs. Doing this lets you lose the skills section columns and get more resume real estate.

Summary sections when done well can be really impactful. Keep it short, sweet and concise so the reader can see what they want to see but will be drawn into the rest of your experience so they learn more about you.

Add lots of links. A link to your LinkedIn page, the company you worked or work for. Recruiters want to be able to access information easily and quickly make a determination.

Benefits of using Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS)

Benefits of using Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS)

Amazon EKS Kubernetes AWS

Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) is a managed Kubernetes service on AWS that makes it easy to run Kubernetes without needing to install, operate, and maintain your own Kubernetes control plane or worker nodes.

Here are four benefits of using Amazon EKS

Highly Secure
EKS automatically applies the latest security patches to your cluster control plane.

Multiple Availability Zones
EKS auto-detects and replaces unhealthy control plane nodes and provides on-demand, zero downtime upgrades and patching.

Serverless Compute
EKS supports AWS Fargate to remove the need to provision and manage servers, improving security through application isolation by design.

Built with the Community
AWS actively works with the Kubernetes community, including making contributions to the Kubernetes code base helping you take advantage of AWS services.

Amazon EKS also supports adding Windows nodes as worker nodes and scheduling Windows containers. EKS supports running Windows worker nodes alongside Linux worker nodes. Allowing you to use the same cluster for managing applications on either operating system.

In terms of pricing, Amazon says you pay $0.10/hour for each Amazon EKS cluster you create. The service is also available in all AWS regions.
