CES 2024 was a blast! The annual tech extravaganza showcased some of the most innovative and exciting products and services that will shape our future. From smart glasses to flying cars, from brain-computer interfaces to holographic displays, there was something for everyone at the event. Here are some of the highlights that caught our eye:

Samsung unveiled its Galaxy Z Fold 4, a foldable smartphone that can transform into a tablet, a laptop, or even a desktop PC with the help of a docking station. The device features a 7.6-inch OLED screen that can bend in multiple ways, a 108-megapixel camera, and a Snapdragon 895 processor. Samsung claims that the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is the most versatile and powerful smartphone ever made.

Sony revealed its PlayStation 5 VR, a virtual reality headset that works with the PS5 console. The PS5 VR has a 4K OLED display, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 220-degree field of view. It also comes with new controllers that have adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. Sony says that the PS5 VR will offer an immersive and realistic gaming experience like never before.

Tesla announced its Model X Plaid, a electric SUV that can fly. The Model X Plaid has four electric motors that generate a combined 1,200 horsepower, and four retractable wings that allow it to take off and land vertically. The vehicle can reach speeds of up to 300 mph in the air, and has a range of 500 miles on a single charge. Tesla says that the Model X Plaid is the ultimate transportation solution for the modern world.

Neuralink demonstrated its Neuralink N1, a brain-computer interface that can connect humans and machines. The Neuralink N1 is a tiny chip that is implanted in the brain, and can transmit and receive data wirelessly. The device can enable users to control devices with their thoughts, access the internet directly from their minds, and enhance their cognitive abilities. Neuralink says that the Neuralink N1 is the first step towards creating a symbiosis between humans and artificial intelligence.

Samsung announces its fourth generation Galaxy Z series foldable smartphones with the introduction of the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4. The new devices according to Samsung feature customisable form factors, tailored experiences, and upgraded performance. Which will intend open up new possibilities for users and deliver a comprehensive smartphone experience. Other devices introduced at the Samsung Unpacked event include the Galaxy Buds2 Pro and Galaxy Watch 5 series.

The new Galaxy Fold 4 comes with Android 12L created by Google for large-screen experiences, including foldable. The camera is upgraded with a 50MP wide lens and 30x Space Zoom lens that improves low-light images. It is powered by a 4nm Octa-Core Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 Mobile Platform Processor and is available in 256, 512 and 1TB storage options. It is also equipped with IPX8 water resistance and a 4400 mAh battery with 25-watt super-fast charging.

Pre-order for the Z Fold 4 begins on August 11 and will officially be available on August 26th. Retail price starts at USD 1799.99 globally. Across Africa, it sells at Ksh 256,999 in Kenya, and R37 999 in south Africa. The device comes in GreyGreen, Phantom Black, Beige and Burgundy colours.

Samsung says the Z Fold 4 is now slimmer and lighter and the S-Pen works with both screens. It adds that content is more immersive and distinctive on the 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED main screen display.

Thanks to Samsung’s partnerships with Google and Microsoft it brings new multitasking features to the device. Google apps, including Chrome and Gmail, now support drag-and-drop. This allows users to quickly copy and paste links, photos and more from one app to another. Microsoft’s full Office suite and Outlook also take advantage of the foldable display.
