Microsoft announce low cost Surface GO PC

Meet the most affordable Surface device yet, the Microsoft Surface Go

surface go

Microsoft has announced a new baby to the Surface family, the Surface Go. With this device it looks like Microsoft is trying hard to put its premium hardware into many more hands.

Introducing the new device, Microsoft’s chief product officer Panos Panay said the thinking around this was to provide the smallest, thinnest, lightest Surface possible with the same premium feel Surface is known for.

When we designed this device, we had to ask ourselves what people want and need from a 10” Surface.
The answers seem obvious – lightweight, productive, and accessible to more people.
I’m pumped to introduce you to Surface Go, because it’s all those things, and so much more
.” –
Panos Panay

Surface Go Specifications

The new device is 10″, has 10 point multi-touch, ink, USB C, MicroSDXC card reader and weighs 1.15 pounds. It is powered by a 7th generation Intel Pentium Gold Processor 4415Y. This means a fanless design so they are able to keep it thin. Coming in two form configurations you can get either the eMMC 64GB / 4GB RAM at $399 or SSD 128GB / 8 GB RAM at $549. Microsoft promises you’ll get 9 hours video playback. Wait! this device has the Windows hello face authentication camera as well, nice. It also runs Windows 10 S, so you are able to get all the app from the store.

Technically you’ll still need to buy the Surface Type Cover, pen and dial. So this puts the price back up there. Having been using Surface Pro’s this will be hard for me(Not having a type cover) based on what and I how I use it. Unless i’m looking for a fun and play device then this works perfect. From what Panos said it meets the needs of families trying to get tablets for the children and if you are a movie person and need a budget device for that. This device also fits in the education devices.

You can Pre-order Surface Go now from the Microsoft store. It will be arriving in homes from the 2nd of August 2018. Interestingly Microsoft will be making this device available to many more markets although no African market yet.

Let us know if this is your cue to finally join the Surface world if you’ve been waiting for something budget friendly. or wait for the older models to enter sale season and swoop in on that? share with us.

Surface Hub 2

Meet the latest member of the Surface family. In as much as this isn’t consumer centered it’s nice to see all that Microsoft is doing with productivity and business. We test every inch of the product and self-host it. One of our most passionate self-hosters is our CEO, Satya Nadella. Just a few weeks ago Satya sent me and other members of the team an email about his experience with the new Surface Pro. He said it was awesome. Meet the Surface Laptop. Microsoft’s most personal and balanced Surface yet.

Meet the Surface Laptop. Microsoft’s most personal and balanced Surface yet.

The Surface Laptop is a real beauty. That’s the latest hardware addition to the Surface family of wowing devices.

surface laptop

At Microsoft’s May event in New York City targeted at educators and students, Microsoft introduced Windows 10 S. Microsoft says Windows 10 S is inspired by students and teachers. The Operating System experience is streamlined for simplicity, security and superior performance. As part of the creation of this new experience, the Surface Laptop was unveiled.

Microsoft sure knows how to listen and do things right. The reaction to the announcement of this device has been amazing.

We built Surface Laptop to do two things: refresh the classic laptop form factor that our customers, especially college students, have been asking for; and make a Surface that works seamlessly to showcase the best of Windows 10 S.

The result is the most personal and balanced Surface we’ve ever made. This Surface perfectly blends fabric and function, power and portability, beauty and performance. It does all of this without compromising on the things we know are important to higher education students: battery life, display quality, storage, and portability.

surface laptop

Let’s take a look at features and what powers the device.
It has the same premium feel we’ve come to know about the Microsoft Surface brand. It comes in four colours, Burgundy, Platinum, Cobalt Blue and Graphite Gold.

It comes in either the i5 or i7 variants of the 7th generation intel core processor. With RAM sizes from 4,8, and 16 GB. It sports solid state drives of 128, 256 and 512 GB. It weights about 1.25kgs. Microsoft says you can get up to 14.5 hours of battery life, well that’s based off on video playback. During the event Surface Chief Panay Panos said it has the highest battery life compared to all existing MacBook PC, also based on video playback.
It’s light and thin. It is Surface pen enabled. You can also use the Surface Dial with the device, just not on the screen. The screen is definitely touch.

You’ll need to understand that there’ll be some features that wouldn’t be available on a particular model. For example the i5 variant doesn’t have the iris scanner and doesn’t come in certain colours.

Even though the device comes with Windows 10 S installed you can upgrade it till 31/12 this year to Windows 10 Pro for free. Also after the free period you can for a reduced price of 42$.

You can pre-order the devices today and they start shipping on the 15th of June 2017.
