Microsoft is powering Ethiopian Airlines Digital Innovation Program with Azure

Ethiopian Airlines flies to 117 destinations worldwide carrying 11 million passengers over 5 continents annually. In answer to providing its customers with the maximum experiences the company setup an innovation program embracing Microsoft technologies. To take care of customer service, operational excellence and revenue increments.

Microsoft AppFactory Academy

Last year Ethiopian airlines and Microsoft 4Afrika partnered to open an AppFactory academy. This the airline says the ICT skills Development Programme has created jobs for Ethiopian graduates.

“Digital transformation is about implementing technology advancements and cultural changes. The technical capacity and skills of the youth, as engines of growth and transformation, is critical to render the country more competitive.
Through programmes like 4Afrika, Microsoft remains committed to investing in and developing relevant skills and competencies across the continent.

Microsoft opens AppFactory in Botswana

Microsoft opens first AppFactory in Botswana, and 17th in Africa. 

 

AppFactory in Botswana

The first Botswana Microsoft 4Afrika AppFactory has been announced at Innovation Botswana 2018. This brings the total number of AppFactories across the continent to 17th. Botswana becomes the 11th country to benefit from this initiative to empower Africa’s young developers with skills and modern technologies. Others can be found in Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Egypt, Uganda, Ethiopia, Kenya, etc.

Microsoft has said working with partners across Africa they share what they’ve learned by creating a franchise program using the AppFactory. “We help them train modern developers who become experienced software engineers thereby bridging the huge demand”.  

Speaking at the event Microsoft 4Afrika’s regional director said this was one of many engagements in the Country. 

The AppFactory will help to equip ICT graduates in Botswana with critical skills to secure jobs, or start their own businesses. This is one of the many engagements we will have in Botswana ” — Amrote Abdella, Regional Director, Microsoft 4Afrika.

Microsoft AppFactory

Mobile Web Ghana is accepting registration from interested applicants to the 2nd cohort of the Microsoft AppFactory fellowship. The program under the Microsoft 4Afrika initiative, is a partnership between Microsoft Ghana and Mobile Web Ghana.

 Earlier this year the program was officially launched at Mobile Web Ghana’s new campus.  

The Microsoft AppFactory is a fully sponsored program where selected applicants get trained in Microsoft Technologies including Mobile Development, Web Development, Windows Development, project management, etc. 
The program is also aimed at equipping the young software developers with hands-on experience while helping them build critical business skills to secure jobs or create their own businesses. Head over to the registration page to get started.

I’ve been able to learn some valuable ethics  and skills needed for the real world working environment; team work, consolidating different concepts together to build useful applications. –  Derrick Korku

Don’t forget you’ll need to have some form of knowledge in programming. A candidate must demonstrate the following as well as some of these will be used in determining your qualification:

A basic understanding of the computer science discipline
Coding proficiency in at least one high level language
Be a Logical Problem-solver
Be Passionate about technology
Be a Curious and continuous learner
Have above average communication skills and
Be a Team Player/Collaborator
