OneDrive Personal Vault lets you store your sensitive files with an extra layer of protection

OneDrive Personal Vault lets you store your sensitive files with an extra layer of protection

Microsoft’s cloud storage platform OneDrive, now lets you securely keep your most sensitive information in a personal vault. Personal Vault is a protected area in OneDrive that can only be accessed by verification on each visit. Providing you with an extra layer of protection for your stored data.

OneDrive already comes with robust security. But this new feature gives you an added layer of protection on your files. Files you feel need more protection incase someone gets access to your account or device. A two factor form of verification is needed before contents can be viewed or edited.

Personal Vault

How does it work?

It uses a second step of identity verification such as Windows Hello, Microsoft authenticator app, your fingerprint, face, PIN, a code sent to you via email or SMS. Other security features include auto locking and a BitLocker encryption. Microsoft says it also asks browsers not to cache accessed information.

Microsoft encourages you to store sensitive data such as your passport, driver’s license, insurance information, etc. But you can store anything personal and sensitive to you without limitation.

The feature is globally available to all users with a OneDrive account. Users with free or 100GB stand alone OneDrive account can save only 3 files. Unlimited usage works with any Office 365 subscriber.

Windows 10 now runs on more than 900 million devices

Windows 10 now runs on more than 900 million devices

Microsoft Corporate Vice President (CVP), Yusuf Mehdi says Windows 10 is now running on more than 900 million devices. The Microsoft CVP of Modern Life, Search & Devices Group shared this announcement in a tweet.

In March 2019 Microsoft announced Windows 10 had crossed the 800 million milestone. A pattern that shows Windows 10 growing by a hundred million devices every six months since October 2018. Yusuf attributes this to the addition of more new Windows 10 devices. More people are upgrading or changing devices as Windows 7 approaches end of support.

The tweet reads:

#Windows10 is on more than 900M devices! Thanks to our customers, we added more new Windows 10 devices in the last 12 months than ever before. From PCs to HoloLens to Xbox to Surface Hub, Windows continues to power innovation—with more to come next week!

Microsoft is finally approaching it target of 1 billion devices running Windows 10. This can happen if the growth continues as early as before Microsoft Build 2020 and next major Windows 10 Upgrade.

There will be a Microsoft Event on the 2nd of October where Microsoft is expected to announce new Surface devices. As well as talk about other products and services including Windows 10.

We can look forward to hearing more from the event. Stay with us and we will bring you updates. Cheers Microsoft, to reaching 900 million devices.

October 2 Microsoft Event: Surface, Windows, Office, Mixed Reality and Gaming

Microsoft will host an event on October 2 and make some announcements. In such recent events, the company showcased new hardware as well as announced Windows updates. I’m not expecting this format to change even though Microsoft will mix things up.

The company sent out a “save the date” invite. With details being only date; 10.02.2019, venue; New York, NY and hashtag #MicrosoftEvent.

October 2

A mobile-first, cloud-first strategy
this is our focus for every device and every service that we launch at Microsoft.

Satya Nadella, Microsoft CEO

Last year the company announced a refresh of the family of devices and new accessories. The Surface Pro 6, Surface Laptop 2, Surface Studio and Surface Headphones.

October 2, 2019, Microsoft Event

I’m expecting Microsoft to announce new devices. A refresh of the Surface Pro, Laptop, Book and Surface Go devices to meet the latest hardware specifications. Fully adopting USB C as many have called for and expanding to new markets.

You will expect Microsoft to brief the media on what’s happening with HoloLens and the world of mixed reality.

Windows and Office will as in the past also get time to share new product updates and cross-device features.

You can also read what other Microsoft watchers think will happen at the event. Read what Mary Jo Foley at ZDNet and the guys at Windows Central have shared.

Let’s know what you think. What are you looking forward to seeing or hearing?

Windows 95 became generally avalable to the public on the 24th of August 2015.

Windows 95

The operating system (OS) was an upgrade from the Windows 3.x family. Bringing its MS-DOS based operating system and its Windows collection of solutions and services into one OS. In this upgrade Microsoft introduced a host of graphical changes to make it user friendly. The start Menu as we all know and like debuted with this OS.

Let’s go down memory lane.
