The Engineers Hack 2019: Hacking solutions to local challenges #EngineersHack19

Microsoft Tech Community and Microsoft Student Partners invites students to participate in a hackathon event.

Labelled the Engineers Hack 2019. A 36-hour hackathon event opened to students of all institutions of higher education in Kenya.

The Engineers Hack will bring students together under one roof to build solutions to local challenges. Solutions to challenges in these area of society; Zero hunger, Proper Education, Affordable housing and Health care. Using emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, internet of things, etc.. Selected hackathon participants will receive mentorship on how to build a business model for their products.

Got an idea? Register. 60 participants will be selected based on creativity, innovation and feasibility of their idea. Participants will receive training on Microsoft Azure AI platform. Learning Azure Cognitive-services, custom vision and Azure machine learning studio.

Engineers Hack 2019

The event is taking place at at the Incubation center (DeHUB), Dedan Kimathi University of Technology in Nyeri.

Adjudged winning teams of the hackathon event will receive prizes. The winning teams will also receive mentorship and an incubation opportunity at DeHUB.

The fourth edition of MEST Africa Summit will be in collaboration with Microsoft. This year Microsoft partners with MEST in the event as platinum sponsors. The summit will explore the latest innovations in the African tech ecosystem. Mest Africa Summit 2019 will take place in Nairobi, Kenya from June 10th to the 12th.

The 3 day Pan-African Tech Summit will have keynotes, fireside chats, panel discussions and workshops. It will look to discuss key topics impacting entrepreneurs and investors in Africa’s technology space.
Conversations will range from the impact of AI and machine learning on Africa’s workforce, the role of tech in cultivating a more energy-efficient Africa, ways data is being used to enable financial inclusion on the continent, how key sectors and innovations are contributing to the ecosystem, etc.

MEST Africa Summit 2019 will also host the Mest Africa Challenge finals. Competing regional finalist will pitch to win the grand price of $50K in equity investment and the chance to join the MEST community. Finalist teams are from Ghana(OZE), Nigeria(Ampz_TV), South Africa(Snode Technologies), Kenya(Wayawaya Ltd) and Cote d’Ivoire(Seekewa).

Codess a Microsoft Women event is headed to Kenya with the first event taking place Tuesday, April 16, 2019. From 10 am at the Strathmore University campus in Nairobi, Kenya.

Codess is an initiative by women at Microsoft. A community dedicated to sharing the stories of women in technology to promote gender diversity in the engineering field.

It aims to inspire female coders and help them achieve their professional goals. That is through networking events, mentoring, and sharing advice and experiences.
