Microsoft opens application for 2nd cohort of LEAP Engineering Acceleration Program in Nigeria, Apply!

Are you a female developer living in Nigeria? Apply to participate in the second cohort of the Microsoft Nigeria LEAP Engineering Acceleration Program.

Microsoft Nigeria lunched the first cohort of the apprenticeship program in October this year. With ten selected female developers from across Nigeria participating in the Program. They received sixteen weeks of training in technical support software engineering roles.

The second cohort of LEAP program in Nigeria will have two tracks. Tracks in Software engineering and support engineering.

The Software Engineer track application opens from December 2nd and closes on the 9th. Whilst the Support Engineer track application opens December 16th and closes on the 3rd of January 2020.

The LEAP Engineering Acceleration Program is a Microsoft initiative that tries to increase diversity. Bringing more women into software engineering roles. By providing them with real world experience through development and project management apprenticeships with hands-on projects.

Speaking to me about the program, Princess Anya, shares that the ladies will undergo four weeks of classroom and labs training. After which they will proceed to do twelve weeks of hands-on project sessions. Where they handle projects with guidance from mentors.

In a prelude to the first cohort, Microsoft hosted thirty female developers in a hackathon event in Lagos.

Microsoft’s open source team hosted the first open cloud summit in Johannesburg, South Africa. The summit powered by Microsoft Azure, showcased some of the most innovative open source technologies in the Azure cloud. Microsoft South Africa, Azure Business Group Lead, Johannes Kanis revealed key momentum and engagements of customers since opening of the Microsoft Africa Datacenter.

Joe noted that since the arrival of the datacenters Microsoft has seen thousands of customers using the service. “We are experiencing double digit growth month on month” he continued. “We are continuing to bring in more advanced services. Particularly at this event we talked about Openshift on Azure, which in the coming weeks will be live in the South African datacenters as well“.

He expressed excitement at seeing customers maturing their products in terms of cloud usage in the Microsoft Africa Datacenter. Using services like serverless and containers.

Red Hat OpenShift is coming to Microsoft Middle East and Africa Datacenters

Red Hat’s OpenShift will soon be live in Microsoft’s Azure datacenters located in the Africa and Middle East region. Azure customers will be able to use the container platform as a cloud service to deliver enterprise-grade hybrid cloud solutions.

Riedwaan Bassadien, Microsoft Senior Cloud Data and AI Specialist made the announcement. Speaking to developers at the Open Cloud Summit held in Johannesburg and hosted by Microsoft and Linux. He noted Openshift on Azure will be live in the South Africa datacenter.

The geographical availability slide he shared showed the service will also be available in Microsoft datacenters located in Abu Dhabi.

Microsoft Kenya and Harvard Business Review, HBR, host Kenyan CFO’s and COO’s at the Harvard Business CFOs Roundtable. The event sought to educate and highlight how these executives can improve corporate performance using advanced technologies. Conversations also included opportunities and possibilities rising in the digital transformation era for the finance department and professionals.

The round table discussion showed that top managers must leverage advanced technologies like the cloud and artificial intelligence to remain competitive. This will promote an environment that is agile to the change brought about by digital transformation. Also leading the companies to reach goals concerning growth, profitability and productivity.

Speaking to business executives at the HBR CFOs Roundtable, Geoffrey noted “the role of today’s CFOs and finance executives must take into consideration a much broader scope requiring a heightened technological sophistication. The emergence of the digital age is fundamentally changing the priorities and roles of today’s finance executives, and security forms an integral part of this”, he continued.

Microsoft Open Cloud Summit, Johannesburg

Microsoft’s open-source team is organizing an Open Cloud Summit in Johannesburg. Powered by Microsoft Azure, the summit will showcase some of the most innovative open source technologies in the cloud.
