Microsoft sponsors 30 Special Olympics athletes from delegations around the world

Microsoft is sponsoring 30 individuals from various countries representing at the 2017 Special Olympics World Winter  games in Austria.

Microsoft is the official Technology Sponsor of the Special Olympics, 2017 Special Olympics World Winter Games taking place in Austria. With that Microsoft is also sponsoring 30 individuals from representing nationals in the competition.

Microsoft provides both financial and in-kind support to SpecialOlympics, including free software suites for all SpecialOlympics’ 220 accredited Programs globally, empowering efficient Programs for people with intellectual disabilities around the globe.

Some beneficiaries include individuals from teams in Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, etc  from Africa.

In Ghana, Microsoft is sponsoring Isaac Otchere a Floorball athlete of the Ghana team. There was a ceremony in Accra held by the Microsoft Ghana country manager and members of the Ghana Special Olympic team.

Mr. Appiah during the event said “Mr. Otchere has established himself as a Floorball athlete and has been involved with Special Olympics for the last four years. Isaac, we are excited to support you and look forward to engaging you and the Special Olympics team on this journey to the 2017 World Winter Games in Austria” – Read more about this as shared by Citi FM
Unfortunately the Ghana and Afghanistan teams were denied visas to participate in the event.

Microsoft Nigeria spent some time with the Special Olympics team, Nigeria via the Valentine day #actofkindnessng event. Adewopo Marvellous Adedovin was selected as the recipient of the sponsorship.

Marvelous captain of the floorball team led Nigeria to gold glory in this year’s competition. Read about Marvelous in the featured story by Microsoft.

 

The African  team athletes have been incredible. Winning a number of medals at the competion.

Derek Appiah Microsoft Country manager Ghana, to speak on microsoft’s vision for philanthropy at National Philanthropy Forum-Ghana 2017.

Microsoft Country manager Ghana, will be sharing insights into Microsoft’s philanthropic vision at this years National Philanthropy Forum-Ghana 2017.

The two day conference is themed Philanthropists As Agents of National Development. The event will receive participants from other African countries. The conference will also feature a National Philanthropy Excellence Awards. The National Philanthropy Forum Ghana 2017 will take place March 23 and 24, 2017 at the Accra International Conference Center. The two-part programme, will on the first day have specific Policy Dialogue sessions laced with presentations from leaders in the humanitarian field, and be climaxed with the awards ceremony on the second day.

During Mr. Appiah’s keynote address at this years World’s Privacy and Data Protection day event in Ghana on Ghana’s Digital Transformation journey. Mr. Appiah spoke on Microsoft Philanthropic Cloud for Global good. We expect to hear more about this and how philanthropists can take advantage of the free tools and resources in achieving more.

In January 2017, Microsoft Philanthropies announced a commitment to donate $1 billion in cloud computing resources to serve the Public Good. Microsoft believes that technology is a powerful force for improving people’s lives. But right now, half the world does not have access to the opportunities, capabilities and benefits of technology. For them, the knowledge and opportunity is out of reach. That’s why Microsoft is investing its greatest assets – our technology, people, grants and voice – to advance a more equitable world.
